Purpose

The purpose of this blog is to introduce a new industry; recreation/tourism for truckers. We will assemble a number of day trips from established truck stops beginning with Pilot Flying J Travel Center in Chemult Oregon.

I know many drivers became drivers with the idea that adventure would be part of the package. After six months on the road however, drivers find that the truck stops all look the same. Outside the wind shield scenery goes by too fast, too far away, to be really appreciated or understood. Adventure for these men and sometimes women comes to depend on the selection of movies in the truck stop movie bin. Thump is dedicated to those truckers who want to use their down time to restore adventure to their lives.

Adventure is rugged. Adventure is healthy. These are two attributes men need to be associated with. It is perfectly fine to read adventure novels (on CD) and day dream of swashbuckling adventures. But if listening or watching the adventures of others is all a man gets to do, he may also be watching his belly fill the gap between steering wheel and belt buckle.
What these men, and sometimes ladies, really need are opportunities for enriching, excursions away from the truck stops, custom designed for unpredictable schedules and soft budgets. A healthy hike now and then would make them feel better. Mountain air and grand vistas will invigorate their minds and souls. Thump hereby dedicates himself to helping drivers get out of the travel centers and into nature for these very purposes.

(Dear reader, if you are Christian, continue! If not, the following won’t be of much interest to you.)

Thump knows all about it. He is a middle aged man who has done his level best to be a good husband and father. Thump’s chips always seem to land in his windshield and rarely in the pile in front of him at the poker table of life. He made mistakes. He has hurt some people, the ones he loves the very most.
He can be forgiven. He has been forgiven; completely by his maker, and by degrees from his family. He has made a remarkable comeback since getting right with God. His story is one that most men in the trucking industry could resonate with. Through this blog, truckers will walk with Thump as he continues to grow as a man and reap the rewards of his conversion.

Goal

My goal is to make this an enriching resource for truck drivers and their families. Specifically, I will endeavor to be a role model in everything that I do. I will lead my life as if I were the hero of a popular fiction, serving others to the best of my ability, trusting in the advice of good friends and advisors. I will make decisions that reflect the wisdom of our maker. I will develop opportunities for world weary men to join in my adventures. I will record and publish those adventures for others to enjoy. I will endeavor to enrich this site daily with practical information drivers will enjoy. Thumper

Greetings

Hello everyone.
My name is Tom. I am curious observer and recorder of the human condition. There must be power in a name. Do you remember Thomas the doubter? Like him, I find myself poking and probing wounds to learn the truth just as the original whose name I've been given. If you have an interesting story or event you would like to share, I'd like to help you write it and preserve it for the enlightenment of all.
